Everything you need to know about the 2017 CrossFit Open
It's almost that time of year again when we can join the international CrossFit community to participate in the CrossFit Open! What is the CrossFit Open and how does it all work, you ask? Well, here you go...
WHAT: World-wide, online CrossFit competition that's open to everyone and is a precursor to the CrossFit Games. Consists of five workouts spread over five weeks. Workouts involve movements we do fairly regularly, such as: deadlifts, box jumps, toes-to-bar, wallballs, pull-ups, burpees, etc.
WHO: Just like last year, there are both prescribed (Rx) and scaled divisions, so everyone can participate! This means YOU!
WHERE & WHEN: Workouts will be announced online at games.crossfit.com on Thursday evenings, starting February 23rd (and running through March 27th). We will run the workouts in all Friday group classes, and then a special "Friday Night Lights" session on Friday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm at CFPR (in lieu of our regular 5:30pm class). We will run heats, count reps for each other, and cheer each other on. Makeups can be done as needed during Saturday Open Gyms.
HOW TO SIGN-UP: If you want to officially participate, go to http://games.crossfit.com/, register, link to our CFPR affiliate, and pay $20. If you don't want to officially sign-up, you can just do the workouts during Friday classes with everyone else!
WHAT ELSE: Everyone is welcome to come watch and cheer folks on. Last year we had a solid Friday evening crew and would often go out for food & drinks after the workouts were completed. It's fun!
